Excessive energy in the head
« on: January 18, 2010, 05:33:30 AM »
My practice has been growing steadily over the past few months. Meditation and Yoga practice is starting to bear fruit.

However, I feel like I've come to the point where I have to cut my meditations short and often times meditate with eyes open.

There is a very claustrophobic feeling in the entire head space. It's expanded as well but feels real dense energetically speaking. Sometimes I get tensions in my head as well during sitting meditation.

'I' guess there is a part of 'me'(apparently I have multiple personality) that worries I might get some sort of brain damage or have an anurism <SP> constantly bombarding my head with these energies.

Hopefully I don't have to discontinue my practice. Any thoughts, recommendations, suggestions?

Love,
J

Just wanted to *bump*

These tensions persist day to day. I even cut down quite a bit on my practice and it's still and issue. It seems like the center of the tension is my brain stem, where the spine meets the brain.

I'm kinda anchored in this area.

Anyone have and similar experiences?

Love,
J

Brother Neil's suggestion is really good. Try the Solar Centering during meditation.

Do grounding activities during the day. Don't focus much on the energy. The more you focus on the energy, the stronger it will get.

Anytime you realize you are caught in your head, bring your awareness down to your heart or lower and think from here. Consciously stay away from your head.

Also, cut back on practices further for a few days.. it really will help you stabilize. You really don't lose anything by self pacing, other than the discomfort. [:)]

Thanks Neil and Shanti,

I will try to incorporate it into my mediation.

Shanti, I noticed you talking about the Reiki Tummo Activaton. I've been looking padmacahya heart meditation and heart activation. Do you think this might help integrate these energies a little better?

It's weird I'm almost upset about not being able to pracitce. It's almost become a lifestyle and on some levels I've gotten attached to it, I have a hard time even giving it up for a few days.

But then again, who is practicing and who is reluctant to give it up?

Love,
J

I have not done Reiki Tummo, but did do the heart workshop. I was at a point where I was ready to work with the heart and the heart workshop really did help. As to if you should try it, it will be a decision you and your inner guru will need to make.[:)]

As for missing meditation because it has become a life style, I am the same way... so when I would overload, instead of meditating at the appointed time, I meditated for a few min and rest for the remaining time. This way I don't get out of the habit of meditation, and yet I am not meditating, so I can self pace. [:)]

wakeupneo,

I have also experienced this feeling of pressure or excessive energy in my head.  What posture do you use to meditate in?  I ask because I noticed that when I began sitting in sidhassana every day, I found the pressure in my head to lessen.  This may or may not be of help to you.

Thanks CWL,

I don't really have a sitting posture, just indian style more or less. I'll try siddhasana though.
