Hi Viji.....

I just did a google search on "asanas 'high blood pressure'" and this article came up: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/81594/yoga_asana_sequence_to_alleviate_high.html?cat=50

On page three it says:

The poses (and pranayamas) recommended for the alleviation of high blood pressure include:

•Halasana (Plow Pose: http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&um=1&sa=1&q=Halasana&biw=1004&aq=f&oq=&aqi=&start=0)
•Janu-Sirsasana (Head to Knee Forward Bend, seems similar to Mahamudra as outlined by Yogani: http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&um=1&sa=1&q=Janu-Sirsasana&biw=1004&aq=f&oq=&aqi=&start=0 )
•Ardha Baddha Padma Paschimottanasana (Half Lotus Forward Bend, with a half bind: http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&um=1&sa=1&q=Ardha+Baddha+Padma+Paschimottanasana&biw=1004&aq=f&oq=&aqi=&start=0 )
•Triang Mukhaikapada Paschimottanasana (Three Limbed Forward Bend: http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=Triang+Mukhaikapada+Paschimottanasana&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=mNqnSvvHI4vIMJOAyZ4I&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=4&biw=1004 )
•Paschimottanasana (Seated Forward Bend: http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&um=1&sa=1&q=Paschimottanasana&biw=1004&aq=f&oq=&aqi=&start=0 )
•Virasana (Hero or Shoulder Stretch Pose: http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=Virasana&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=WtunSrO2FpWCMZ2K2bEP&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=4&biw=1004 )
•Siddhasana (Seat of the Perfected/Accomplished Ones : http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&um=1&sa=1&q=Siddhasana&biw=1004&aq=f&oq=&aqi=&start=0 )
•Padmasana (Lotus Pose: http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&um=1&sa=1&q=padmasana&biw=1004&aq=f&oq=&aqi=g3&start=0 )
•Savasana (Corpse Pose: http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=Savasana&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi&biw=1004 )
•Nadi Sodhana Pranayama without retention (Alternate Nostril Breathing: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2669401368933080584# )
•Meditation with eyes closed

()'s and what they contain is added by me.

I'm sure that many of these didn't need explanations or images, I just thought I would be consistant....hope that this rights itself soon!

Love,
Carson[^]

Do you smoke and/or drink? Do you stress more these days? A slight touch of depression maybe? Change is eating patterns?

It can be related to heart opening and/or kundalini. Anyway.. you are in the right path with meditation and (mild) medication [:)]. Don't stress too much about it. The more thought you put into it, the longer the symptoms linger on. Continue with the medication and the meditation and you can try the asanas Carson has mentioned above.

PS: See if this topic helps (maybe I pointed you to this one before, not sure)

Yogani's reply may be useful:

For a more articles, Google "DASH Diet."

It is a low fat, low salt diet, leaning toward fruits and vegetables. When combined with regular aerobic exercise, it is highly effective.

As for the AYP practices skewing the results in a stress test, it can vary, but over time it tends toward more relaxed body functions rather than hypertensive, due to the rise of inner silence. Even so, the formative stages of kundalini awakening can be very energizing, as many of us know, so hiccups in the body's parameters may happen. So, at any point in time the influence on biological functioning may vary, depending on where we are in our over all development (and also time of day in relation to our practice routine can make a difference).

It will probably take many years of research by the scientific community to determine the full metrics of human spiritual transformation. Of course, with or without the science, we have to use our common sense and self-pace as needed, which includes doing what is necessary to preserve our health for the long haul. We'd like to be practicing as long as possible in this lifetime. [:)]

All the best!

The guru is in you.

hi Vijikr,

Hatha and meditation are natural medications for many physical/mental diseases..
Diet is a basic thing too.
If you can buy "Al Tobb Al Nabawi" (Medecine of the Prophet) it contains many wisdoms concerning healthy way of living.
And I just wanted to say be specially careful with the consumption of
sugar (white/brown/honey...) and overconsumption of fruits and water as it tends to weaken the heart/kidney function over time.
Also watch out the intake of salt.
Relaxing music and natural incense (rose, lavender,yasmine...) help calming the heart.
Breathing exercises - pranayama - are also balancing.

Peace

First of all thanks Carson,Shanti and christine .

I am just going through them Carzon all those links given by you. I am bit lazy. I have to start doing the asanas again. I remember stopping them since I felt doing yoga(asanas) increased my blood pressure. But now I came to know some pranayama which I was doing earlier had breath retention which made it worst.but now I am easy on it.

Shanti Iam reading about the DASH diet and yet to read yogani's link.I am actually not depressed I am happy person don't indulge in negative stuffs much.

No I don't smoke or drink. But I noticed for the past 3 days my blood pressure was way too high and I had to take extra shot of pills to bring it down. Now I am wondering if its kundalini stuff (I did add Heart Pranayama recently)

Christine I'll try to get that book.I have reduced salt intake but have to cut down a lot on my junk food.
Thanks I'll take pranayama into consideration.

Btw I haven't added bastrika pranayama yet to my AYP Practice becaz of this bp thing.

Hi Viji.  A friend of mine had very high blood pressure and nothing was bringing it down....not medicine, salt reduction, caffeine reduction, zero alcohol....nothing. He was worried.

He started walking. He began with a half mile a day. Then a mile, then two. He began walking longer distances because he enjoyed it.

Within three months, his blood pressure was in the normal range. Mind you, he continued his medication and good diet. He was not much overweight, but from walking he also became quite trim.  For Tom, walking helped where nothing else did.

Hi,
I used Anulom vinom pranayama to stabilise my high blood pressure.Search on Swami Ramdev's site for this.He states one needs to do this using full lung breathing to get oxygen into the body.Worked for me using it only 10 minutes a day for 1 week.
