I was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome a few years ago, and have found that a change in diet has worked wonders.  I now follow a vegan diet, and discovered that eating dairy was a major cause of IBS in my case.  Since cutting it out, I have had no further problems.  It took a while to make the shift to vegan, but it has paid off in more ways than I expected - for me, it was a 'heart' decision to switch from vegetarian to vegan, and the clearing up of the IBS has been au unexpected and  delightful bonus [:)]

thanks for your input amoux.I am an occassional meat eater and have found that eating meat actually helps my condition although not to the extent of what one would call "normal".i have also stayed off dairy products for long periods and it hasnt really changed anything.I know for sure that this condition was triggered off by stress and has more to do with my mind than my body.It just makes leading a normal life rather difficult. It really puts me down sometimes besides affecting my self-confidence.

Here is an interesting article for an IBS diet. It talks about the difference between soluble and non-soluble fiber, and foods that trigger IBS:

You could try unrefined, extra virgin coconut oil, three spoons a day (one with every meal), cook/bake with it and spread it on bread/crackers etc. Did wonders for me.
